Why do some chocolates have a white or grey look?
Chocolate, especially premium chocolate like Guylian Belgian Chocolate, is a sensitive product. It is highly susceptible to changes in temperature. Most commonly, the white or grey look is a “bloomed” chocolate. Chocolate bloom occurs when it has experienced wide changes in temperature. Although it may look unpleasant, bloomed chocolate is not harmful to eat.

What does the percentage of cacao content mean?
Cacao content refers to the cocoa based ingredients in the chocolate, which is everything derived from the cocoa bean, including chocolate liquor and cocoa butter. For example, our Extra Dark Chocolate Truffles have an outer shell made of 74% cocoa.

What is cocoa butter and why is it important?
Cocoa butter is a natural component present in cocoa beans. It is obtained by pressing cocoa beans into chocolate liquor and cocoa butter. Cocoa butter is not a dairy product. Cocoa butter is the critical ingredient that makes chocolate so desirable as it delivers the luxuriously creamy mouthfeel for which the best premium chocolate is known. Guylian uses 100% pure cocoa butter and does not allow cocoa butter to be replaced by cheaper vegetable fats; as vegetable fats don’t deliver the same taste experience and mouth feel consumers expect from premium chocolates.

Is Guylian chocolate fair trade?
Guylian chocolate starts with an exceptional blend of the finest West African cocoa beans. Only cocoa beans that meet Guylian’s highest quality standards and that are produced and sourced in a sustainable way are selected and then blended to create our superior Belgian chocolate.

Does Guylian chocolate contain dairy products?
All Guylian products may contain dairy or milk products. Any person with a dairy allergy should NOT consume ANY of our products.

Do Guylian chocolates contain milk?
Guylian uses milk powder in most of our chocolates. Our manufacturing facility process milk, dark, and white chocolate products.

Does Guylian chocolate contain nuts?
All Guylian products, including our chocolate bars, may contain tree nuts. Any person with a nut allergy should NOT consume ANY of our products.

Is there gluten or barley malt in Guylian chocolate?
We cannot guarantee that Guylian chocolates are gluten free. The following Guylian products contain traces of gluten:

What is Soy Lecithin? Do Guylian products contain Soy Lecithin?
Soy Lecithin is a natural emulsifier derived from soybeans, which is added to chocolate to help maintain an emulsion between the cocoa butter and sugar. No Guylian product is 100% guaranteed soy allergen safe. The product may contain minute traces of soy because they do run on the same lines as products which do have this ingredient.

Are Guylian chocolates kosher?
Most Guylian chocolates are Kosher certified, status Diary, including:

We guarantee that all used raw materials are non- GMO. Our suppliers confirm that each consignment of soya lecithin is from a non-GMO origin.

Are Guylian chocolates suitable for vegetarians?
All Guylian chocolates are suitable for vegetarians and do not contain any of the following:

  • Animal flesh (meat, fowl, fish or shellfish)
  • Meat or bone stocks
  • Animal fats (including marine oils)
  • Gelatin

Each of our products has a clearly stated "best before" date stamped on each product.

How should I store Guylian chocolate?
Guylian Belgian Chocolate is a highly sensitive product that is susceptible to changes in temperature. You should store Guylian wrapped tightly in a cool, dry place with a temperature ranging from 60-75°F.

Can Guylian chocolate be refrigerated or frozen?
We do not recommend you refrigerate Guylian chocolates as the cold temperatures can damage our meticulously crafted Belgian chocolate.
